 FEED YOUR SOUL

Feed Your Soul was started by GMCKS after seeing the sad state of hundreds of homeless people in Santa Monica, California. Out of compassion for the condition of these unfortunate street dwellers, GMCKS bought 100 burgers and had requested some students to hand them out. Shortly thereafter, a regular feeding program was started in Santa Monica. Meals were given out several times a week. Since then, Feed Your Soul has distributed meals in Santa Monica, the Metropolitan Los Angeles area, surrounding areas of Riverside, Orange County, Fresno, as well as other states including Chicago, Illinois and St. Louis, and Kansas City, Missouri.

•  INTERNATIONAL DISASTER RELIEF

USA

HURRICANE IVAN 2004

Hurricane Ivan, the most intense and destructive hurricane of the 2004 season left many homeless, without power and food. Around 52 people died and 25,000 homes were destroyed rendering thousands homeless. Hardest hit was Pensacola , Florida where a portion of a major east-west highway through the Panhandle was washed away. Insurance experts estimated the storm damage from anywhere between US$4-$10 billion. Endowment Fund helped the victims by providing shelter and food to some of the victims.

HURRICANE KATRINA 2005

Hurricane Katrina was the costliest and one of the deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States . Most catastrophic was the effect on the city of New Orleans , Louisiana which was mostly flooded due to the hurricane. Katrina is estimated to be responsible for $81.2 billion in damages and killing at least 1800 people and rendering many homeless.

Due to the extent of the catastrophe, only rescue workers from designated organizations were allowed to enter the affected area.

Immediately, EFWPGH disbursed funds to render assistance, in order to provide the victims with shelter and food. People were forced to evacuate and move to different states, most of them relocating to the neighboring state, Texas. EFWPGH is still helping the victims by providing them with new homes and jobs.

SOUTHERN ASIA

INDONESIAN TSUNAMI 2004

In December 2004, a major earthquake followed by a tsunami hit Asia and Africa , devastating many coastal areas. Almost 200,000 people in eight countries perished in a few hours, and over 100,000 are still missing. Many more had their homes and livelihoods swept away. The coastal areas of Indonesia and Sri Lanka and two Indian island chains bore the brunt of the calamity. Immediately, EFWPGH funds were authorized to a Global organization that had direct access to the Tsunami victims providing shelter, food and clean water.

EARTHQUAKE IN INDIA AND PAKISTAN 2006

More than 4 million people were rendered homeless due to the devastating earthquake and at least 75,000 were killed and over 100,000 people injured in India and Pakistan . Reports indicated that entire towns and villages were completely wiped out in Northern Pakistan with other surrounding areas also suffering severe damage. Relief efforts were drastically slow due to inadequate access to the region and severity of weather.

The Endowment Fund for Global Peace and World Healing, Inc. helped the victims by providing tents and blankets, through the Rotary International, RI District 3010, India. These tents were used as temporary homes as they were waterproof and windproof making them suitable shelters in high altitude areas.
